Photo Album: Buckling Floors in Summit, Mississippi
Following Hurricane Katrina, this homeowner replaced all of his floors because they were buckling. Since Ida hit recently, they have been buckling and cupping again. Unfortunately, he was advised to add vent fans to circulate the air in his crawlspace. This is a common misconception that many homeowners fall victim to. We've found that the best way to view a crawlspace is to essentially look at it like a short basement. You wouldn't vent your basement or leave the dirt exposed, right? It's the same concept for the crawlspace. We always recommend sealing off this space and totally encapsulating it to maintain a dry atmosphere.
Melissa designed an encapsulation right for this home, and Michael and his crew installed it. They left with a very happy customer who was bragging about the whole process!
Buckling Floors
This is a common symptom of moisture in the crawlspace. Most of the time after our system has been installed, floors will level out after totally drying out the wood.
Before Encapsulation
Plastic liners are not a moisture barrier. They create more trouble because they trap water inside the crawlspace.
After Encapsulation
Now he has a clean, dry crawlspace that will stay moisture free and help his floors settle down!
Job well done, guys!
